Fira Del Ram 2016, Palma de Mallorca

Enjoyed by locals and tourists alike, the wide range of attractions means that this amusement park has something for everyone. Upon entering the fairground, you will find your inner child creeping to the surface when greeted with the grimy glamour of flashing lights and the familiar scent of popcorn, candyfloss and burgers.

You are truly spoilt for choice when it comes to the rides! With the usual classics including a 60m Ferris wheel, lots of little carousels, bouncy castles, a fun house, dodgems, go-karting and rollercoasters. The amusement park even boasts its own water rapids and little laser quest, taking it up a notch as far as fair ground rides go!

I haven’t even started on the maximum thrill rides for the adults. I would definitely recommend the ‘Flip Fly XXL’ and ‘El Gigante de la Feria’ for the thrill seekers who thrive off a stomach-churning experience. Warning! Not for the faint hearted…

Due to the large proportion of visitors being local families, you will find prices extremely reasonable throughout the park. Rides and games (normally 3€ or 2€), the most extreme rides are a little more (3.50€). There’s the chance to win some prizes like soft toys, legs of ham, and much more on traditional game stalls like fishing, hoopla, shooting, football and raffles (from 1€). You have to be in it to win it!

I was impressed with the variety of food stalls; the obvious favourites are dotted around, selling burgers, churros, sweets and candyfloss galore. I do feel they really excelled themselves in the food department. There was Grillmeister, where you can enjoy a German style hot dog (4€), crepes (from 3€), pinchos (from 1.50€) and there is even a little Italian restaurant tent where you can sit down and enjoy a pizza. Soft drinks (from 1€), beer (from 2€) and wine by the glass (from 2.50€) are all available throughout the ground.

The origin of this feria is related to the arrival of a painting, said to be a copy of the Santa Faz (the cloth, also known as the veronica, that Jesus used to wash his face when he was carrying the cross) that was brought from Rome to Mallorca. So many people flocked to see the painting that merchants began to set up stalls selling sweets, toys and other items. Although it is not known exactly how or when the painting arrived in Palma, records suggest the fair dates back to the early 1800s. Fira del Ram has moved around Palma city centre over the years, but as it has grown over the years it has been moved to a larger area in Son Fusteret.

Definitely worth a visit for families with children, thrill-seeking adults or those who just fancy some childish fun!

Opening Times: Monday to Thursday from 5.00pm to midnight. It's open late on Fridays - until 1am, and opens all day from 11am until 1am on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.

Entry: Free entry for adults and children.

Transport: I would suggest going by car if this is an option, there are 2 car parks right just across the road from the feria, however there is a bus that takes you there. Bus number: 10 (Sa Indioteria), it can also be reached by Metro from Plaza España, the stop is Son Euster Yell (the third).
