Michelle Obama back in Mallorca
It's the third time that the former FLOTUS visits the island
Michelle Obama landed in Palma airport, Son Sant Joan, early this morning. The former First Lady of the United States has chosen Mallorca for her holidays once again.
This is the third time that Obama has visited the island. Her first trip here was in 2010, as part of an official visit to the Spanish royal family who were vacationing in Marivent Palace like they usually do. She was joined by her husband, who was then still president of the US, and her daughters Malia and Sasha.
Last year, she spent a week in Mallorca as the guest of James Costos, former US ambassador to Spain, who is a good friend of the Obamas. They stayed in Ses Planes, a luxury finca near Esporles in the heart of the Serra de Tramuntana mountains. She was seen having dinner at the celebrated Ca Na Toneta Restaurant in Caimari, as well as sailing around the island and boarding a yacht at the glamorous marina of Puerto Portals. She also visited the charming villages of Banyalbufar, Sóller and Deià.
Her arrival on the island today has been surrounded by a strong security presence. It is still unknown whether she will be staying with James Costos and his husband Michael Smith again, but the couple has recently been seen wandering the streets of Llucmajor and Pollença. What we do know is that Barack will very likely not join her this time as he is set to attend Senator John McCain's funeral in Washington on Saturday.
