Pollenca to Sa Calobra Cycling Route
The one to do for serious cyclists
The road to Sa Calobra is one of the reasons so many cyclists come to Mallorca. With an average gradient of 7% (maximum gradient is 12%) and a height gain of 668m over 9.4km it is sure to test the most professional thighs.
The road down to Sa Calobra is only one of the descents/ascents on this bike route. By starting in Pollenca, you will be treating yourself to a 92km round trip. You can choose to start closer to Sa Calobra by driving to Lluc - from there it is about a 47km round trip.
The road takes you through some of the best scenery on Mallorca. It starts with reasonably gentle inclines from Pollenca leading on upwards into the Tramuntana Mountains. Continue on and you will come to the turn off for Lluc - one of Mallorca's oldest sancturies and well worth a stop if you have the time. You can also stay here in simple rooms.
Continue on and you will pass through the tiny hamlet of Escorca. A few kilometres on from here and you will find the turn off for Sa Calobra on the right hand side. Enjoy the descent of hairpins until you reach the little port of Sa Calobra. There is a restaurant and a short walk will take you to the Torrent des Pareis and a small beach.
Gather your strength for the climb back up - the unofficial record for the ascent is 22.30 minutes by Sir Bradley Wiggins, but this may just be a rumour!
