Chapeau 1987's mixologist wins Bacardi Legacy Award
Originally from Argentina, Matias Iriarte is the co-owner of Chapeau 1987, on Paseo de Mallorca, together with legendary Ginbo Bar founder Santiago Cebrián Morales. His extensive experience creating innovative cocktails all around the world and as bar manager at Ginbo have made him the Spanish champion at Bacardi Legacy Cocktail Competition.
Iriarte's award-winning concoction has been named "El Luchador" (The Fighter), a very personal combination of ingredients that reflects his life's history. Bacardi's best Spanish cocktail is a mixture of lime, thyme syrup in a tribute to the Mediterranean and the island of Mallorca where he arrived when he was 15 years old, aromatic bitters in honour of the bartending profession, Fernet liqueur alluding to his Argentinian origins, Bacardi as the main ingredient, and soda to round it off. It is served in a "Luchador" glass and decorated with a mate straw and fresh thyme.
Matias will head to the global final in Berlin on 23rd May. We wish him the best of luck! In the meantime, you can try his delicious creation at Chapeau 1987 Bar in Palma.
