Bus services in Mallorca

Discover and book Mallorca bus services

Updated

The bus services on Mallorca offer a low-cost approach to travelling around the island. Routes are extensive and it's possible to travel by bus to most of the towns, villages and resorts. The service can sometimes be a slow option as buses quite often stop everywhere; however, there are express services, so be sure to check all the different bus lines that travel to your chosen destination.

There are several local bus companies in Mallorca. EMT (Empresa Municipal de Transports Urbans de Palma de Mallorca) manages Palma local buses. The rest of the island is serviced by a handful of private companies; all the information about these routes can be found on TIB (Transports de les Illes Balears).

Watch out for

Bus fares are a few euros, the exact amount depends on the journey. Bus tickets can be purchased from the bus driver directly when you get on, in cash. Drivers will have some change so you don't need the exact money but many won't accept a note larger than 10€ or 20€ - unless the fare is over 20€, in which case 50€ notes are accepted. So beware before you start your journey!

Tourist services

There are tourist buses in Palma run by City Sightseeing. They operate from 09:30 to 20:00 and do a full loop every 80 minutes. The route, with 18 stops, goes via the cathedral, Plaça Major, Ramblas, Plaça d'Espanya, Parc de la Mar, Es Baluard, the sea promenade and marina, Porto Pí, Joan Miró Foundation, Bellver Castle, Pueblo Español and many other areas in the city.

24-hour tickets cost 21€ for adults, 10€ for children 8 to 15 years old and 10€ for over 65. Tours are available in English, Spanish, German, Italian, French, Chinese, Russian and Catalan.

Timetables

Palma bus services

Palma has its own bus service run by EMT (look out for the blue buses). You pay for your journey when you get on board - single tickets only (1.50€, or 3€ for journeys on line 1 to the port). Drivers won’t usually accept a note larger than 10€. You can also buy a set of 10 journeys at a discounted rate of 10€ in tobacco shops and the EMT office (Josep Anselm Clavé 5, around the corner from Olivar Market).

A night bus runs on Friday and Saturday nights - and on nights before a public holiday (fiesta time!). It starts on Avenida Gabriel Alomar and goes past Plaça Espanya, Avenida Argentina, Passeig Maritim, Port de Palma and Porto Pí roundabout. They run approximately every 25 minutes. Single tickets cost 1.50€.

Children under 5 accompanied by an adult travel on Palma buses for free (4 children for every paying adult are allowed on board for free). Those with buggies must board the bus using the central door and leave it on the central platform of the bus.

Airport buses

There are two dedicated airport bus routes that operate year round. One route runs between the airport and Palma Centre (L1). The other route runs between the airport and the holiday resort of S'Arenal (L21). Tickets cost 5€. For these airport routes, the timetables and stops can also be found on EMT's website.

Four additional airport bus routes operate in the summer, from May/June to October. The AeroTIB lines connect Palma airport with Magaluf, Santa Ponça and Peguera (A11); Inca, Alcúdia, Playa de Muro and Can Picafort (A32); Manacor, Porto Cristo, Cala Millor and Cala Bona (A42); and S'Arenal, Llucmajor, Campos, Porto Petro and Cala d'Or (A51). Fares depend on destination and range from 5€ to 12€.

Mallorca island-wide buses

Each area of the island is well connected by buses from Palma and back, with plenty of other stops along the way, making it easy for you to explore your local region when coming to Mallorca for a holiday - for information on bus lines and timetables, visit TIB's website.

Both single and return tickets are available. In either case, these are only valid on the day of purchase, and returns must be "there and back" via the same route.

For residents of Mallorca, you can apply for an 'Intermodal Card' at your local town hall - this card can then be charged up and used like London 'Oyster Card' to allow multiple journeys. The Intermodal Card is not yet available for visitors to the island.

Children under 12 years old must be accompanied by an adult.

The map below shows the different areas of Mallorca and the lines that service them:

Local timetables, changes in schedule and all other information about Mallorca bus services, can also be found on TIB's website. Bus companies usually set up special services for the biggest events on the island, so keep an eye on their website for up to date information.

Some of the most popular lines linking Palma and other resorts throughout the island are:

Pets & animals

You can't take animals aboard Mallorcan buses, except for guide dogs for people with visual, hearing, or other types of difficulties.

In Palma, EMT allow dogs on Lines 1, 2, 3, 15, 20, 21, 25 and 30, as long as they have a leash and muzzle. On all other lines, you can take small dogs in bags or cases properly suited to carrying animals as long as the driver agrees to it. Guide dogs are allowed on all lines.
